Background
Due to COVID-19, more and more people started cooking at home. Some talented home cooks would like to sell their homemade food to those who might need it. Meanwhile, some people who are not good at cooking and rely heavily on food deliveries and restaurants would like to buy some healthier home cooked food. Then I came up this idea of designing an app to help connect these two groups of people finding each other and reach their goals.

Brainstorming
Mind Mapping
Screener Survey
To begin with, I distributed a screener survey to get some understanding of people’s thoughts on home-cooked food delivery idea. I asked people to identify their cooking skill levels. I also asked people’s favorites food delivery applications and some essential elements they look at when ordering food.
I received 22 responses in total. More than half of people indicate they are good at cooking, but they are willing to order home-cooked food if there is an option. Personal hygiene and food safety are the top things people care about, and the fresh food ingredients is the second important.
User Interviews
To better understand people’s considerations regarding homemade food delivery. I also conducted 5 virtual interviews. During the whole conversation, I asked people more open questions about their cooking habits, eating habits, food delivery difficulties, and thoughts on homemade food delivery during the coronavirus pandemic.
Insights
People choose food delivery restaurants depending on their good ratings, comments, and food photos.
People order food delivery because they do not have time to cook.
People think home-cooked food is healthier.
People complain most is delivery time and communication with delivery guys.
People use different food delivery applications. UberEats owns more counts.
What People Are Saying
“Sometimes I neither want to cook myself nor ordering restaurant food, I just want a simple home cooked meal.”
“One of my friends is a dessert baking master, I always want to order her food. It will be great to have such platform!”
“Home cook could be someone I don’t know, but If I can feel the home cook is an active existing being, I will feel comfortable to order food from them.”

Feature Prioritization
After doing the competitor analysis and synthesizing data from user interviews, I realized that the most significant barrier to selling homemade food is finding a way to show home cook’s hygiene and food safety. Meanwhile, people who would like to order home-cooked food highly rely on other people’s ratings and comments.
I located features in the coordinate graphs to prioritize the features to meet the user’s first needs. Besides, I also used the MoSCoW method to prioritize all the “Must Have”, “Should Haves”, “Could Haves” and “Won’t have” features, then finalized several key features.
